The 2026 DR GPT™ AI Healthcare Index is Harvey Castro’s review of healthcare AI companies, clinical evidence and implementation questions. It presents an author led scoring framework across seven dimensions, including clinical impact, evidence strength, safety and workflow integration. The report reflects information available in February 2026 and includes a conflict of interest disclosure.
How to interpret the evidence
A 2025 systematic review of 1,263 adult ICU AI studies found that 74% remained at technology readiness level 4 or below. This finding concerns research maturity in intensive care. It does not establish that 74% of all healthcare AI products lack clinical validation. Read the systematic review.
For healthcare leaders, the practical question is what evidence supports a particular tool in its intended setting. Before adoption, ask about external validation, prospective evaluation, workflow performance and monitoring after deployment.
Scope and limitations
The report describes its scoring framework in the methods appendix. Its rankings reflect author judgment and should not be treated as an independently validated census of the healthcare AI market. A complete company roster with source evidence and dimension scores is needed to make the rankings reproducible.
