SAPIENT Daily
Under two minutes. One reflection, one question to carry through the day, one small action. Written by an emergency physician, in the gaps between shifts, for people whose work matters.

Most things built for depleted people ask depleted people to find time. That is the design flaw. A workshop assumes an hour. A journaling habit assumes a quiet morning. A meditation app assumes you remember it exists on the day your shift ran three hours long and you ate standing up.
These take under two minutes. Not because two minutes is optimal, but because two minutes survives your worst week. A practice you keep on your worst week is the only kind that changes anything.
Day 19, exactly as subscribers received it.
Day 19 · Beingness
I see another person's visible result without seeing every resource, constraint, or sacrifice behind it. Comparison becomes less useful when I treat incomplete information as a fair measurement. I can admire something specific while returning to the conditions of my own life.
Carry this question
What context am I missing in this comparison?
One practice
Replace one broad comparison with one specific skill I could learn from the person I admire.
Tonight
What can I learn from this person without comparing whole lives?
That is a full day. There are 364 more.

You do not need to be in medicine. You need to be someone for whom a bad week has consequences beyond yourself.
It will not fix a broken schedule. It will not repair a department run by someone who should not be running it. It is not a substitute for therapy, and it is not treatment. If you are struggling in a way that frightens you, please talk to a professional. I mean that plainly, as a physician.
What a daily practice does is smaller and more real. It gives you one place each morning that is yours before the day starts making demands. Over a year that accumulates, not because any single day matters, but because you stopped going a whole year without asking yourself anything.
Will this actually reach my inbox?
It should, and there is one thing you can do to make sure. When the first email arrives, reply to it, even with a single word, or drag it from Promotions into your Primary tab. Both actions tell your mail provider you want these. If you are on a hospital email system, add the sending address to your safe senders list, or use a personal address instead. Hospital filters are aggressive and they are not tuned for you.
What time does it arrive?
Early morning, before most shifts start. The point is to read it before the day begins rather than to catch up on it later.
Do I start at Day 1?
Everyone moves through the year together, so you join at whatever day the cohort is on. That is deliberate. A shared cadence is what makes people talk about it, and it is what makes the practice stick. New subscribers get a short welcome series first.
What if I miss days?
Nothing happens. There is no streak, no counter, and nothing to fall behind on. Missing a day is not failing at this. Delete it and read tomorrow's.
Why are the books free with this?
Because they cost me nothing to send and you should have the full method if you are going to practice it daily. The books are the map. The daily email is the walking.
Can I cancel?
Any time, in one click at the bottom of every email. No conversation required, and you keep the books.
Can my organization run this for a team?
Yes. Residency programs, nursing units, and health systems can run a cohort together, with reporting on engagement. Write to me and I will send the details.
